As a little pick-me-up, I bought a cheerful new lipstick at MAC recently, designed by Dutch wonder-designer Marcel Wanders. I liked the look of the lipstick tube itself, which resembles a turned wooden leg of a table.
Which leads me to the pleasing setup above, also from Meneer Wanders–the business-class table setting of KLM. Evidently, this has been a project of his for some time. It’s lovely, with the scalloped edges that instantly remind you that you’re not on US Airways.

After ignoring the internets all day, I came home to see not only was one of my favorite sites Copenhagen Cycle Chic now also on Twitter, but that this amazing artist, Genna Campton, had created the incredible illustration you see above as an homage to that site.

When I talk about loving the Dutch design aesthetic, what I mean is a spectrum that includes the crazy modern stuff like the kind Droog creates. I actually have a set of these bikes straps to use in your house. I have no idea what I’ll use them for, mind you, but I just love the idea of taking something so practical and making it a design element on the wall. Plus, hello novelty!

Before we went to Orcas Island a few weeks ago, a friend of mine said that when we were there we had to check out this artist. I was intrigued by her enthusiasm, but it’s always one of those things that seems more interesting to the person who is recommending the experience.
I filed it away to the back of my mind, but then when we were there, another set of friends suggested his work to us, so we had to check it out.
Anthony Howe is a sculptor whose work seems to be influenced dramatically by nature and engineering.

As Greece sifts through the wreckage wrought by its enormous public debt, which sent tremors through world finance in recent [...]

This web ad is part of a series I saw in this month’s W magazine, and I find myself returning to these images. These photos are effective advertising, in that they make me wish I was headed to Riviera. Or Venice. Soon.
The whole Grace Kelly-goes-on-a-road-trip-with-Diego-Luna thing is a winner for me. Something about the bright, warm sunlight in the tail end of winter fills me with longing–for blue water and a vaporetto.

This recent piece in New York magazine about the new, pedestrian-friendly Times Square had me thinking: Why don’t more American cities think of creating something similar? It’s not like New York is a natural.

Unlike guest blogger Betty, who got the hookup through work to fly the swanky skies through Singapore Air, I always wind up in the seating area of the people. And neck pillow or no, you wouldn’t confuse my seating with the treatment you see above.
But I have hope the lying-flat phenom might make it all the way down to my level. Air New Zealand released their new “spooning” seats for couples–basically, buy the middle seat and you have the option of lying flat near the one you love (or loving the one you’re with…in seat 4D).
