What’s interesting to me is that some of these places look like they could be multiple spots. I purposefully left off the place names from the captions of each, so that you could guess to see if you know each location. Mouse over or click through to see where they were shot.

I have the taste buds of an 85-year-old man. I love liverwurst. Pickles are to die for. Black coffee, please, and never with milk and sugar. I almost always pass on dessert, and why the Pringles you see above appealed.

I’ve been told I posses some sort of gene that predisposes me to the flavors of umami, a term originally coined by the Japanese for the preference of savory over sweet.

Which is why I seriously love Asia.

The idea is that there would be something fun, unexpected, or pleasing in the pictures that would make it worth your while–in other words, not the stock photos you see on a disappointing number of travel blogs. I’ve taken all of these photos myself, including this one:

Granted, I’m a writer, not a photographer by any stretch, but even so, it just seemed like a fun addition. I’ll keep doing it until it proves itself unpopular or until I run out of photos–whichever comes first.

The last photo, in particular I can’t stop looking at. There’s something about him smoking on the roof of a moving train that is both beautiful and very sad.

It reminds me of the poem “Pictures of the Gone World 11,” by Lawrence Ferlinghetti.
