Someday before I die, I will arrive on an overnight flight to Europe without feeling scraped. Because I will have spent six to nine hours in a wonderful little flight pod like this one:

I first saw this new first-class Swiss Air cabin in Travel & Leisure, although this photo–and a much funnier writeup–can be found at Wallpaper.
Unlike Betty, who got the hookup through work to fly the swanky skies through Singapore Air, I always wind up in the seating area of the people. And neck pillow or no, you wouldn’t confuse my seating with the treatment you see above.
But I have hope the lying-flat phenom might make it all the way down to my level. Air New Zealand released their new “spooning” seats for couples–basically, buy the middle seat and you have the option of lying flat near the one you love (or loving the one you’re with…in seat 4D). Photo after the jump.

New Zealand Air, I appreciate at least that you’re trying to bring the good stuff to us, the cheap-seat buyers, even if it means I have to scrunch my legs up in the process. It’s better than nothing. (Read the full description at Gadling, the source of the photo above.)
Just yesterday, Jaunted reported that Asia Air, a low-cost carrier, will also be offering lie-flat seats at non-first-class prices.
If this is the new trend for spring aughty-ten, may I just say: Hoo. Ray. I’ll take it over the other trends on the horizon according to New York magazine (shorts at the office and little white dresses replacing the little black dress).
Even if I can’t have the Swiss white-linen-tablecloth experience, the possibility of lying down for those long-haul flights makes me very, very happy.
