I thought the recent New York Times article on the revitalization of Honolulu’s Chinatown was reasonably good, but they missed a rad shop, if not the best in the area*.
I only bought a set of note cards at Chinatown Boardroom–a great name for a surf shop if ever there was one–but the selection was great, as was the vibe.
Whereas most surf shops skew hippie or vintage Hawaiian, the Boardroom one had a citified graffiti-artist feel. It was a little intimidating though, which is why I sneakily took the photo of the awesome board above with my iPhone.
That said, they’re friendly enough to have both a web site and a blog.
And speaking of Oahu, you might be interested in this review of Muumuu Heaven and, if you’re a fan of the TV show Lost, the 5 best Lost Sites on Oahu.
*As always, when I say I like a shop, it’s because I actually like it. The only money that changed hands for this blog post was what I paid for the note cards mentioned above.
